Kastelbell

Kastelbell ( Italian Castelbello ) is a fraction and the capital of the municipality Kastelbell-Tschars in Vinschgau in South Tyrol . The village has about 900 inhabitants.

location

The center of Kastelbell is located on the orographic left side of the Adige Valley at an altitude of approx. 590  m slm at the foot of the Sonnenberg . The Marein district is in the immediate vicinity on the opposite side of the Adige .

history

The history of the place is closely connected to the Kastelbell Castle , which gives it its name , which stands a little higher above the town center. The first written mention goes back to the 13th century. In 1928, the formerly independent municipality of Kastelbell was merged with the neighboring village of Tschars , and since then the joint administrative center has been in Kastelbell.

Johann Platzgummer , Prince-Bishop of Brixen from 1641–1647, was born in Kastelbell.
