Katarzyna Hall ( kata'ʒɨna 'xal ), née Kończa , (born March 15, 1957 in Gdansk ) is a Polish politician . From 2007 to 2011, the independent Hall was Minister of Education in the government of Donald Tusk .

Life

Katarzyna Hall graduated from the 8th general high school ( VIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące ) in her hometown and then studied mathematics at the University of Gdansk . In 1976 she married her first husband, with whom she has two sons (born in 1978 and 1979). Her husband passed away shortly after the birth of their second son. In August 1980 she became a teacher at a general sports school before joining the Institute of Mathematics at Gdansk University in 1984. In 1989, she became involved in building the first private Lyceum of the Tri-City , the Danziger independent Lyceum ( Gdańskie Liceum Autonomiczne ). In 1996 she married the Polish politician Aleksander Hall , with whom she has a son. From 1999 to 2001 she was a member of the Consultative Council on Education Reforms. She was also editor of the Klocki Autonomiczne program for elementary and junior high schools . From 2004 to 2005 she was the coordinator of the “Szkoła otwarta na świat” ( School open to the world ) program, which was mainly concerned with exchanging experiences with Ukrainian schools. On February 13, 2006 she became Deputy President of the City of Gdansk.

She was a member of the Tusk I cabinet as Minister of Education. In the 2011 parliamentary elections , she was elected to the Sejm on the PO list and left the government. Her successor was Krystyna Szumilas .
