Caltanissetta Cathedral

The Cathedral of Santa Maria la Nova in Caltanissetta is the cathedral of the diocese of Caltanissetta , a diocese of the ecclesiastical province of Agrigento in the ecclesiastical region of Sicily of the Roman Catholic Church .

The construction dragged on from 1570 to 1662, the facade was added in 1840. The dome, transept and parts of the apse date from the time thereafter . The vault of the main nave was painted by Wilhelm Borremans in 1720 . War-related damage has been restored. On the right side of the main nave there is an organ from 1601.

It is located in Piazza Garibaldi in the center of the city. Since 1844 the church has been the cathedral of the diocese of Caltanissetta.
