The Cathedral of San Nicolò in Noto is the cathedral of the Diocese of Noto, founded in 1844 in the ecclesiastical region of Sicily . It was built after the earthquake of 1693 at the new location of the city from 1694 to 1703 as the main parish church ( Chiesa Madre ) of Noto. The church was enlarged in the 18th century and the facade was completed in the Sicilian Baroque style by Rosario Gagliardi by 1770 . It has had the title of a minor basilica since 2012 and is part of the World Heritage Site of the Late Baroque Cities of Val di Noto .

The cathedral can be reached via a wide flight of stairs . Characteristic are the double-towered facade structured by columns and the portal, which shows the life stages of the patron saint of Noto Corrado Confalonieri . A silver shrine with the relics of the patron saint is kept in a chapel in the right aisle.

The crossing dome over the three-aisled interior collapsed in 1996 together with the side aisles due to erosion and material fatigue. From 1999 to 2007 the cathedral was restored. In 2009, the Russian artist Oleg Supereko painted the dome with new frescoes.
