Katherine Reutter (born July 30, 1988 in Champaign ) is an American short tracker .

She was already on the ice at the age of four, but initially still in figure skating. However, she quickly switched to training ice speed skating and inline skating. In 2005, at the age of 16, she won first national age group championships and was subsequently accepted at a junior training center in Marquette . In 2007 she took part in a Junior World Championship for the first time in Mladá Boleslav . In the following season 2007/08 she made her debut in the World Cup and reached a total of five podium finishes. At the world championship in Gangneung , she achieved good placements right from her first participation in a world championship in the adult sector. She was fourth in the 1500 m, won bronze in the 3000 m superfinal and was seventh in the all-around competition. Also in the 2008/09 season she reached six podium places, including a World Cup victory for the first time. At the team world championship in Heerenveen she won bronze with her teammates, at the world championship in Vienna she was again seventh in the all- around competition.

The 2009/10 season was Reutter's final breakthrough in the world elite. She won two world cup races over 1000 m and 1500 m. In the World Cup discipline she was second over 1000 m and third over 1500 m. As a national champion, she qualified for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver . There she was seventh in the 500 m, fourth in the 1500 m, won silver in the 1000 m and bronze in the 3000 m relay. She also won two medals at the 2010 World Championships in Sofia , both bronze over 1000 m and with the relay. The following year she won four medals at the World Championships in Sheffield . She became world champion for the first time over 1500 m, won bronze over 1000 m and silver over 3000 m and in the all-around event. She also won bronze at the 2011 World Team Championship in Warsaw . In the World Cup , she won the World Cup over 1000 m and 1500 m respectively and was also the overall World Cup winner. The first half of the season in the 2011/12 World Cup was also successful . Reutter achieved six podium places, including three World Cup victories over 1000 m and 1500 m. However, Reutter missed the second half of the season due to an injury.

Reutter counts Bonnie Blair , five-time Olympic champion in speed skating, among her role models. Blair grew up in Champaign too. Reutter trains regularly at the height of Salt Lake City . They have to finance the training there themselves, which is why they support several sponsors, including the Champaign Police Department. In return, she sponsors charitable projects.
