The Katthol mark at Belau in 2015

The Kattholzeichen is a solitary and natural monument in the Plön district in Schleswig-Holstein . The common oak ( Quercus pedunculata ) is located in the municipality of Belau on the Perdöl estate east of Wankendorf . The age of the pedunculate oak is 320 to 450 years, the trunk circumference (measured at a height of 1 m) 12.8 m.

The tree is already mentioned in the forest botanical book of 1906, where it is also shown. The oak formed a base through large outgrowths of the trunk. Above these outgrowths it had a circumference of 5.80 meters at a height of 1.45 meters and 8.70 meters at a height of one meter. At that time the trunk was 6 m high up to the first larger branch; the summit height was around 12 m with partly dry branches and a small crown. Also in trees and forests of Schleswig-Holstein: The tree was described as a contribution to the natural and cultural history of the province from the same year.
