Katuutire Kaura

Katuutire Kaura (born February 3, 1941 in Ombujondjupa , South West Africa ) is a Namibian politician . From 1998 to 2013 he was chairman of the opposition party DTA of Namibia (formerly the Democratic Gymnasium Alliance ) and between 2000 and 2005 he was the official opposition leader in the Namibian National Assembly .

Kaura went into exile in the United States of America in the 1970s . He worked as a teacher at Nyack High School in New York until 1978 and at Rockland Community College until 1975 . At the same time, Kaura was studying at Long Island University and Columbia University .

Before he was promoted to party president of the DTA, he was vice president from 1989. Kaura assumed the presidency after his predecessor, Mishake Muyongo , was expelled from the party.

On September 7, 2013, Kaura surprisingly lost the election to chair the DTA against McHenry Venaani . Kauura was expelled from the party on February 3, 2014 for reputational damage and removed from his parliamentary seat, but reinstated on February 12, 2014.
