Kay Wenschlag (born February 25, 1970 in Berlin ) is a former German football player ( defender ) and football coach.

Career

Kay Wenschlag grew up in Berlin and was trained in the offspring of BFC Dynamo and then played at Rotation Berlin in the GDR league at a young age . In 1989 he dared the leap to BSG Stahl Brandenburg in the GDR league . Here he was only substituted on five times and played an FDGB cup game . In 1991 he was signed by Werder Bremen . He belonged to the Bremen master squad in 1993, but did not appear in that season. Wenschlag moved to the then second division Hansa Rostock in 1993 and to Energie Cottbus in 1996 . For both clubs he came once to a second division. From 1998 he played for VfL Osnabrück and became champions of the Regionalliga Nord in 1999 with the club . In his first season he convinced as a Libero and was a guarantee for the defensive strength of the purple-whites. After they became champions in the Regionalliga Nord, they lost the decisive promotion game against Chemnitzer FC. VfL was also unable to successfully contest the play-off round. In the following season Wenschlag lost his regular place due to injuries and was only used 17 times in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2000/01 season. In 2001 he played 26 appearances for Holstein Kiel in the Regionalliga Nord, from 2002 he played for the Lower Saxony state division club FC Schüttorf 09 and let his career end there.

After the end of his career as a professional footballer , Wenschlag completed vocational training as a specialist for swimming pools .

As a football coach, Wenschlag led the A1 youth of FC Schüttorf 09 to the runner-up in the Weser-Ems regional league in the 2009/10 season. In the 2010/11 season he reached first place with the team and promoted to the national league. From 2012 to 2014 he was assistant coach for the 1st team of FC 09 in the District League III Weser-Ems.
