Kazan (Tennō)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Emperor Kazan ( Japanese 花山 天皇 , Kazan-tennō ; proper name Morosada ; born November 29, 968 ; † March 17, 1008 ) was the 65th  Tennō of Japan (August 27, 984-23 June 986). He was the son of Emperor Reizeis and succeeded his uncle En'yū to the throne.

The actual political power lay with the regent ( Kampaku ) from the Fujiwara family Fujiwara no Yoritada (924-989).

After two years in office he was so saddened by the death of his favorite wife Tsuneko that he resigned and retired to Kazan-in (華山 院) in Kyoto, where he died at the age of 40.
