Kazys Bradūnas (born February 11, 1917 in Kiršai , district Vilkaviškis , † February 9, 2009 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian poet.

Life

Bradūnas came from the same village as the poet Salomėja Nėris (1904–1945). He attended high school in Vilkaviškis . After graduating from high school , he studied Lithuanian language and literature at the Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas in Kaunas and later in Vilnius from 1937 . Before the end of the Second World War he emigrated to the West. First he lived in Munich , where he was on the editorial staff of “Aidai”, and since 1949 in the USA , in Baltimore and Chicago . Bradūnas was editor of "Lietuvių literatūra svetur" and the newspapers "Draugas" and "Literatūros lankai" as well as the editor of the anthology "Žemė".

In 1992 he was awarded the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize. Since 1994 he has been a member of the Lithuanian Writers' Association ( Lietuvos rašytojų sąjunga ) . In 2002 he reached 1st place in the "Poezijos pavasaris" competition.
