Kein & Aber is a Zurich publishing house that was founded in 1997 by Peter Haag , who previously worked for Haffmans Verlag .

In addition to books, Kein & Aber also publishes CDs, DVDs and comics. The publishing house started with the audio book Pooh the Bear , translated and read by Harry Rowohlt , and the CD Der Standort Deutschland by Gerhard Polt . Winnie the Pooh is to this day, with over 600,000 records sold, the publisher's most successful audio book. In 2004 Flann O'Brien (read by Harry Rowohlt) and Daniil Charms Falls (read by Peter Urban ) two titles of the publisher were awarded the German Audiobook Prize with Auf-schwimm-zwei-Vögel .

Since 1998, books have also been published by Kein & Aber; the most important authors include André Aciman , Woody Allen , Roger Boylan , Truman Capote , Sir Arthur Conan Doyle , Venedikt Erofeev , Anja Jardine , Güzin Kar , Flann O'Brien , Alfred Polgar , Richard Reich , Robert Seethaler , Steve Tesich , Philipp Tingler , Anne Tyler and Takis Würger .

From 2007 to 2014 Roger Schawinski was invested with shares in the publishing house and was also Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The publisher is considered to be outstanding in the area of comic art . Extensive monographs have been published by artists such as Michael Sowa , Rudi Hurzlmeier , Peter Gut , Bernd Pfarr , Ernst Kahl and Heino Jaeger . The titles Clean Up Art and Clean Up Even More Art by Swiss cabaret artist Ursus Wehrli have become longsellers.

To date, the publisher has published over 350 titles. The publishing house in Zurich's Bäckerstrasse has up to 16 employees at times.

In 2010, the Swiss trade magazine “Schweizer Buchhandel” named the publisher the publisher of the year .

In March 2016, Kein & Aber took over the insolvent Berlin publisher Rogner & Bernhard .
