The Kempten Jazz Spring is a major cultural event in Kempten in the Allgäu .

history

The Jazz Spring was organized in 1983 by the Klecks cabaret, which was founded at the time. In 1995 the club restaurant Klecks am Hofgarten opened in the vicinity of the orangery .

The event will open on Rathausplatz in the old town. In the fifth edition in 1989, 11,000 guests came to the halls, restaurants and bars of the city. The festival is organized by around 700 volunteer members of the cabaret.

The nine-day series of events in April / May is one of the larger jazz festivals in Germany. Another musical event in Kempten is the music night in pubs and the APC summer in the covered thermal baths of the Cambodunum Archaeological Park .

The event has been canceled for 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic .

Music bandwidth

Folk music , blues and rock , modern jazz , Latin , hip-hop , avant-garde and Dixieland music are played. Most popular with most visitors is traditional jazz. The artists Lionel Hampton , Michel Petrucciani and the Dave Brubeck Quartet have performed so far . Well-known musicians, newcomers and beginners play.

In the St. Mang Church find gospel concerts instead. There are also games in the ballroom of the Kornhaus .
