Kenderes [ ˈkɛndɛrɛʃ ] is a town in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, Hungary . The place is located east of the Tisza in the Great Hungarian Plain , extends over 11,124 hectares and has 4,736 inhabitants (as of 2011).
history
Kenderes has been the ancestral seat of the family of the later Hungarian ruler Miklós Horthy since the 19th century . His remains were - after the withdrawal of the last Soviet troops from Hungary - transferred from the Portuguese Estoril to Hungary in 1993 and buried on September 4th in a mausoleum with state subsidies and in the presence of several Hungarian government members in the local cemetery.
