Kenny Chesney
Kenneth Arnold "Kenny" Chesney (* 26. March 1968 in Knoxville , Tennessee ) is an American country - singer and songwriter , who more than 30 top ten singles on the Billboard country charts had.
Career
Chesney grew up in Tennessee. It wasn't until college that he got into music, learned to play the guitar and played in his school's bluegrass band. Eventually he began to write his own songs and performed in clubs and pubs on every free evening. After graduating from East Tennessee State University with a degree in marketing , he moved to the country capital Nashville in 1991 .
After he had been engaged in a honky tonk there for some time , he signed his contract with a label as a songwriter and shortly afterwards he got his own record deal. In late 1993 his debut album In My Wildest Dreams was released . Even if his label dropped out of country music shortly afterwards, it got him enough attention to find a place with a major label. The following album All I Need to Know already brought him into the country scene.
Chesney's first big hit was Fall in Love , which reached the top 10 in the spring of 1995. The album's title song also made it into the top 10, but the subsequent singles no longer made it to the top 20.
In the fall of 1996 he landed his biggest hit to date, Me and You , with which he moved into the top 5, and he returned in early 1997 with When I Close My Eyes . In August 1997, he stormed the charts with She's Got it All and stayed at the top of Billboard Hot Country Songs for three weeks .
Other of his subsequent number 1 hits were: How Forever Feels (six weeks at number 1 in spring 1999), The Good Stuff (seven weeks at number 1 in summer 2002), There Goes My Life (also seven weeks at the beginning of 2004 Top) and When the Sun Goes Down (a duet with Uncle Kracker , first place for five weeks in spring 2004).
In addition to the first places, Chesney achieved a few second placements with That's Why I'm Here (summer 1998), Young (spring 2002), Big Star (spring 2003), No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem (late summer 2003) and The Woman with You (Fall 2004).
In 2004, Chesney received the CMA's Entertainer of the Year award for the first time . In January 2005, Chesney released the album Be as You Are: Songs From an Old Blue Chair.
In September 2007, Chesney's album Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates was released . The resulting pre-released single Don't Blink was the 13th number 1 hit in the US country charts for Chesney.
In May 2008, Chesney was awarded the Audience Award “Entertainer of the Year” for the fourth time in a row by the Academy of Country Music Awards . In November of the same year he received the CMA's Entertainer of the Year award for the third time in a row.
In 2009 his second greatest hits album was released, which was his ninth number 1 album in the country charts. With the single Out Last Night he reached his best place in the Hot 100 with number 16. At the same time it was his tenth gold single. With the advance release of The Boys of Fall for his next studio album Hemingway's Whiskey , he reached number 1 in the country charts for the 17th time in October 2010.
According to an evaluation by Billboard Magazine of the financially most successful music artists on the US market (CD sales, downloads, broadcast royalties, concerts, but not advertising contracts, merchandising etc.), Kenny Chesney had a net profit of almost USD 30 million 3rd place in 2011.
Private life
On May 9, 2005, Chesney married actress Renée Zellweger . Chesney wrote the song You Had Me from Hello for her based on a quote from the film Jerry Maguire . Just four months later, on September 16, 2005, Zellweger announced the separation and pleaded for marriage annulment due to fraud. On December 22, 2005, the marriage was officially annulled.
