Kernig sign

The Kernig sign is a neurological sign named after Wladimir Kernig . It is considered positive if, when lying down - with the hip joint flexed - the passive extension of the knee joint leads to severe pain in the lumbar region.

It occurs for example in the meninges eye irritation ( meningism ) z. B. in the context of meningitis ( meningitis ), lumbago ("lumbago") or herniated disc .
