Kerry Ellis (born May 6, 1979 in Suffolk , England ) is an English musical actress who made a name for herself by impersonating several West End leading roles. She gained particular fame through the Queen musical We Will Rock You , where she played the role of "Meat / Ozzy" in the original London cast. Until 2009 she played the role of "Elphaba" in the musical Wicked - The Witches of Oz in London. Ellis toured several times with Brian May , who produced many of her publications.

Career

Even before Kerry Ellis began her professional training at Laine Theater Arts in Surrey in 1997 , she was part of the Starmakers group for two years , which gave her first stage experience.

In 2000 she became a member of the ensemble of My Fair Lady , where she also appeared as the understudy of "Eliza Doolittle". She also worked as an understudy in Magic of the Musicals . In the original London cast of the musical We Will Rock You she was seen as "Meat" from 2002 to 2004, before joining Miss Saigon's England tour as "Ellen". She later returned to London and played "Fantine" in Les Misérables .

Since the end of 2006 she was engaged in the musical Wicked - The Witches of Oz . First she worked there as an understudy for the main role “Elphaba”, only to replace Idina Menzel as “Bad Witch of the West” in January 2007 . She was also seen as the first cast “Elphaba” on Broadway for half a year, after which she played “Elphaba” again in the London production, her last performance for the time being on May 9, 2009.

From March 2010 to January 2011 she was in the musical Oliver! to be seen as "Nancy".

From May to July 2011, Ellis toured the UK with her solo program Anthems - the Concert , sometimes accompanied by Brian May . The opening concert took place on May 1, 2011 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Since August 4, 2014, Ellis has been back on the stage of the Apollo Victoria Theater in London as "Elphaba". She stood in for her colleague Willemijn Verkaik , who had to end her engagement early due to a back injury. She will play the green witch until October 25, 2014, before she will be replaced by the regular Nikki Davis-Jones.

In 1999 she appeared on a recording for Children in Need and in a jingle for Capital Radio.

Kerry Ellis can also be heard on the 2003 original London Cast CD by We Will Rock You . She recorded her interpretation of Queen's track No-One but You (Only the Good Die Young) , which she also performed in a musical, with Queen guitarist Brian May in 2004. In 2008 she released Wicked in Rock , a CD with two tracks of the musical in rock versions and No-One but You in the UK .

Ellis' studio album Anthems , also produced by Brian May, was released in September 2010. This was followed in 2013 by the live album Acoustic by Candlelight - Live on the Born Free Tour by Kerry Ellis & Brian May. It contains recordings made during their 2012 tour of Great Britain. and was produced by May.

In 2014 she released the album KE , on which Brian May only partially collaborated. In 2017 the album Golden Day was released , which Brian May produced again, wrote some songs for it and played along.
