Kevin Bureau-Poulin (born April 12, 1990 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League since February 2020 and for their farm team, the Ontario Reign , in the American Hockey League is used.

Career

Poulin began his career in the 2006/07 season in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League , one of Canada's three major ice hockey junior leagues, with the Victoriaville Tigres . They had chosen him in third overall position in the previous draft . He had a solid first season and stayed with the Tigres in the 2007/08 season. For the 2008 NHL Entry Draft , he was considered one of the most promising candidates among the porters in early position from a NHL - franchise to be selected.

Due to his falling performance at the Victoriaville Tigres, he was selected in the fifth round in 126th place by the New York Islanders . Poulin also spent the 2009/10 season in the QMJHL at the Victoriaville Tigres and achieved a catch rate of 91.6% in 54 games of the regular season.

In May 2010 he signed a three-year entry - level contract with the New York Islanders. In September 2010 he took part in the Islanders training camp, but was sent to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the American Hockey League a few weeks later when the squad was reduced . After some strong games with the Sound Tigers, he was appointed to the Islanders' NHL squad for the first time on January 4, 2011. Two days later he made his debut for the Islanders in the National Hockey League when Poulin came on the ice in the game against the Edmonton Oilers after 5:17 minutes in the first period for Nathan Lawson , who had previously only saved one of three shots by the Oilers. Poulin ended the encounter with a record of 19 saved shots and remained clean, but the Islanders lost 2-1. About a month later, he suffered a knee injury that made him unable to play until the end of the season. As a result, Poulin was replaced by Mikko Koskinen , also a rookie .

In the following seasons, Poulin moved regularly between the NHL and AHL without really being able to establish himself with the Islanders. When he was to be sent to Bridgeport via the waiver again in September 2015 , he was signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning . There he was supposed to be used in the Syracuse Crunch , but ultimately did not complete a game for the organization of the Lightning, as he was given to the Calgary Flames in November 2015 . After his contract expired, he joined the Prédateurs de Laval from the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey in October , but a few weeks later signed a one-year contract with the Barys Astana from the Continental Hockey League . For Barys he completed 14 assignments in the KHL.

In October 2017 he joined Medvescak Zagreb in the EBEL . At the end of December 2017 he won the traditional Spengler Cup in Davos with the Canadian selection and shone in the final when he became the Canadians' guarantee of victory.

On January 14, 2018, the EHC Kloten from the Swiss National League announced the immediate commitment until the end of the 2017/18 season . With the EHC Kloten, however, Poulin rose to the Swiss League , but received no follow-up contract. In September 2018 he received a contract for the 2018/19 season with the Eisbären Berlin after Marvin Cüpper was injured. He performed well with the polar bears, but did not get a new contract after the season due to his " difficult character ".

Poulin then returned to North America, but didn't find a new team until December 2019 when the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins hired him on a trial basis. After this did not result in a firm commitment, he joined the Ontario Reign in February 2020 , before its NHL cooperation partner, the Los Angeles Kings , provided him with a permanent contract a little later.

International

On an international level, Poulin won the Spengler Cup 2017 with the Canadian national team before he was also part of the squad for the 2018 Winter Olympics . There, the team that competed without NHL players won the bronze medal.
