Kim Sung-hwan (born April 13, 1953 in Seoul ) is a South Korean politician and diplomat and former Foreign Minister of South Korea.

biography

Personal

Kim Sung-hwan studied economics at Seoul National University and Slavic and Eastern European studies in London .

He is a member of the Saenuri party and has two daughters.

Diplomatic career

In 1988 he entered the diplomatic service . From 1994 to 2002 he held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. From 2002 to 2005 he was ambassador to Uzbekistan . From 2005 to 2006 he was Deputy Minister for Planning in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, from 2006 to 2008 Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the international organizations in Vienna .

Foreign Minister of South Korea

In March 2008 he became Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and on October 8, 2010 Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade. He succeeded the resigned Yu Myung-hwan , who was accused of nepotism. On March 11, 2013, he was replaced by Yun Byung-se .
