Kim Young-gwon ( kor. 김영권 , born February 27, 1990 in Jeonju ) is a South Korean football player . He is under contract with Gamba Osaka in the J1 League and is mainly used as a central defender.
Career
society
Kim first played soccer at his university in Jeonju before the central defender was discovered and signed by FC Tokyo during a trial training session . There he made his debut on March 20, 2010 in the Japanese first division against Gamba Osaka . He scored his first goal with a direct free kick on June 6, 2010 in the Japanese League Cup against Kyoto Sanga . On January 1, 2011, Kim moved to league rivals Ōmiya Ardija , where he played 40 league games in a year and a half.
In the summer of 2012 he moved to China to the top club Guangzhou Evergrande for a transfer fee of around 2 million euros. There he made his league debut on August 25, 2012 in a 0-0 draw against Tianjin Teda . In the 6-1 win against Changchun Yatai on April 20, 2013, he was able to achieve his first league goal for his club. With Guangzhou Kim has won the Chinese championship twice, once the Chinese Cup and once the Asian Champions League.
National team
Kim took part with the South Korean U-20 national team at the U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009 , where he and his team were eliminated from Ghana in the quarter- finals. In the 3-0 win in the preliminary round against the USA , he scored a goal. He subsequently played for South Korea's U-23 team, which won the bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
On August 11, 2010, he ran for the first time for the South Korean national soccer team in a 2-1 win in the friendly against Nigeria . He has not yet been nominated for the 2011 Asian Football Championship , but scored his first goal for the senior national team in a 2-1 win in the friendly against Serbia on June 3, 2011. As a result, he played a few qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. At the World Cup, he played all three group games for South Korea, after which they were the last to be eliminated from Group H. At the 2015 Asia Cup in Australia, Kim also played all games and only had to admit defeat to Australia in the final . When he won the East Asian Cup in 2015 , Kim led his team onto the field as team captain.
At the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Kim scored the 1-0 lead in the 92nd minute after a corner kick in the third game of the preliminary round against Germany . The hit initiated the 2-0 defeat of the German team and their historic elimination after the group stage.
