The Children's Neurological Center Mainz is an outpatient treatment center for social pediatrics with a special outpatient clinic for spina bifida and hydrocephalus , sponsored by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Hospital in Mainz .

The center has existed since 1971 and was the second social pediatric center in the Federal Republic of Germany. It was built on the site of the former monastery of the Good Shepherd . Today the location belongs to the area of ​​the district Hartenberg-Münchfeld .

The Children's Neurological Center aims to provide preventive support to children at risk of disabilities. It employs medical staff, psychologists , therapists , educators , nurses and community service workers who work together on an interdisciplinary basis. A remedial early intervention center and an integrative day-care center with Montessori education complete the overall concept. The treated patients include children and adolescents as well as other neurologically ill patients. With its interdisciplinary organized case management concept, it wants to continue to be a role model for service centers of the same kind. As part of the state hospital, the pediatric neurological center can fall back on an inpatient area with 20 beds in the Rheinhessen specialist clinic in Alzey .
