Kings of Summer (Original title: The Kings of Summer , Festival Title: Toy House ) is an American dramatic comedy film from 2013 .

action

The life of the teenager Joe Toy is dictated by his single father Frank, who constantly patronizes him. Joe's friend Patrick is also annoyed by his boring parents. As the summer vacation begins, Joe and Patrick are invited to a party by their schoolmate Kelly, which is ended prematurely by an angry neighbor. On his way home, Joe meets the strange-looking Biaggio, with whom he discovers a clearing in a nearby forest. Joe makes the decision to build a house with Patrick and Biaggio at this point in order to be free from responsibility and their parents. When the self-built house is completed, the three youngsters tear away from home to spend the summer there. After Joe and Biaggio's attempts to fend for themselves by hunting animals in the wilderness fail, they end up in the local supermarket. Patrick's parents are now worried and turn on the police. Only Joe's father Frank sees the situation calmly, since he believes that his son would provoke him with this action and want to explore his limits.

On one of his forays, Joe sees Kelly doing her vacation job on a golf course. Kelly tells him that she broke up with her boyfriend and that everyone is worried about the three runaways. Joe then tells her about the house in the forest and invites her to visit. When Kelly stops by with her girlfriend and a boyfriend, Joe sees Kelly and Patrick get closer. Since Joe has feelings for Kelly himself, Patrick and him have an argument one more night while playing Monopoly. Joe accuses Kelly of standing between the friends like a cancer and destroying everything, whereupon Kelly runs away in dismay. Joe orders Patrick to run after her and not come back. Biaggio also leaves the house after Joe explains that he wants to be alone now.

Weeks later, Joe still lives alone in the woods. He's now running out of money and trying his hand at hunting. Kelly, meanwhile, blames himself after Joe is still missing and wanted, but none of his friends reveal the location of their hiding place. Finally, Kelly seeks Joe's father Frank and tells him that she can take him to his son. Biaggio also worries about Joe and receives advice from his father never to let friends down. Meanwhile, Kelly and Frank have arrived at the house and see Joe sitting in a corner threatened by a poisonous snake. While they are trying to help Joe, Biaggio suddenly appears and tries to kill the snake with a machete. Biaggio is bitten by the snake. Joe can cut off the snake's head. When Biaggio's health deteriorates rapidly after the bite, they drive Frank's car to the hospital. Biaggio survives the snakebite and Frank explains to Joe how proud he is of him. Joe's friendship with Patrick and Kelly also seems to have been restored after the events in the forest.

In one post-credit scene , Biaggio continues to spend time at her home in the woods.
