history

Local history

The place Kittlitz is apparently a foundation of the Lords of Kittlitz , a noble family with headquarters in Kittlitz in Upper Lusatia , which also had possessions in Lower Lusatia. The names were 1298 de Kethelitz , 1363 Kithelicz and in the 15th century Kittlitz . The Sorbian place name was mentioned in 1761 as Dlope and Dłobe . The Lower Sorbian place name is probably derived from the Old Sorbian word Dłob , the meaning of which has been lost. This word could be related to the Lower Sorbian word dłypaś , which means to hollow out . A connection to Upper Sorbian dypać for hew or chop is also possible. The Lower Sorbian name describes a cave or a depression. The place name Kittlitz is based on an Old Sorbian personal name Chyteł .

In 1363 a Barbara were of Zickow from Seese five hooves and a garden in Kithelicz as jointure securitized. The owners of the village changed several times in the following period. In 1625 a Friedrich Wilhelm von Hoym, who previously owned parts of the village of Schlabendorf , bought part of Kittlitz and relocated his manor there. As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Kittlitz came with the entire Lower Lusatia to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the district of Calau . Until 1925 Kittlitz was a Gutweiler . The Kittlitzer Mühle also belonged to the estates. There was also an inn in Kittlitz on the salt road leading through the town and a sheep farm west of the fish ponds on the Schrake .

Originally, Kittlitz was not a municipality, but an estate district . In 1836, the two kossaten of the village were moved to Eisdorf and their property in Kittlitz passed into the possession of the manor, which means that the entire district area of the Kittlitz manor was in their possession. With the estates in the districts of Eisdorf, Hänchen and Klein Klessow , the Kittlitz manor district came to an area of 641.5 hectares, of which 145 hectares were forest. On September 30, 1928, the Kittlitz manor district was dissolved and converted into a municipality.

With the Brandenburg district reform in 1950, Kittlitz and other communities left the district, which was converted into the Senftenberg district, and became part of the Lübben (Spreewald) district. In 1952 the places came to the newly founded district of Calau . Around 1960 all the farmers from Kittlitz had come together in the agricultural production cooperatives "Unity" or "Peace". The LPGs merged later, this new LPG was in turn connected to the LPG "Plant Production Groß Beuchow ".

In 1959 Kittlitz became the seat of the VEB "Braunkohlenwerk Jugend". From the 1960s, lignite was mined in the area around Kittlitz , and numerous neighboring towns such as Seese were devastated by the adjacent opencast mines such as Seese-West . Kittlitz itself lost its district area south of the Schrake, which, however, was uninhabited. On October 1, 1964, the later devastated places Kückebusch and Vorberg were incorporated into Kittlitz. The corridor of the devastated town of Tornow was incorporated into Kittlitz on January 25, 1968. The place Lichtenau belonged to the Tornower Flur . The incorporation of Eisdorf followed on January 1, 1967, and Schönfeld on May 1, 1974 . Kittlitz belongs to the Lower Lusatia church district .

After 1989, numerous houses were rebuilt in Kittlitz. On October 26, 2003, Kittlitz with its parts of the municipality and the places Boblitz , Groß Beuchow , Bischdorf , Groß Klessow , Hindenberg , Groß Lübbenau , Klein Radden , Leipe and Ragow in Lübbenau / Spreewald were incorporated as districts.

Economy and Infrastructure

Kittlitz is located south of the Spreewald motorway triangle , where the federal motorway 15 , which runs north of the town, merges with the federal motorway 13 , which runs directly to the west . Kittlitz is connected to the A 13 via the junction of the same name.

During the GDR era, the administrative headquarters and main workshops of the “Jugend” brown coal works were located in Kittlitz. The track systems of the coal trains from the opencast mines near Schlabendorf and Seese crossed in the village. They brought the lignite to the Lübbenau and Vetschau power plants . The old industrial facilities have since been torn down and an industrial park has been created instead. A new roundabout and a bypass road have been built at the motorway junction, which leads almost directly to the roundabout in front of Groß Klessow.

In Kittlitz there is a special needs school with an associated dormitory for the mentally handicapped. After 1989 it was renovated and a two-storey sports annex, consisting of a special swimming pool and a gym, was added.
