Sound dummy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sound dummies are acoustic aids that are used in zoology and hunting (often illegally). Sometimes sound mockups are also used to scare away (scare away) animal species.
In this case, a sound utterance of an animal species stored on a sound carrier is sounded out in the wild in order to provoke a reaction from the animal species envisaged. Response reactions are corresponding utterances and / or approaches.

  • In applied zoology, sound dummies are used to determine the occurrence of an animal species without a doubt. Above all, this method is used in ornithology (ornithology) for many species, but should be used very carefully and as sparingly as possible and only for those species that would be extremely difficult or impossible to detect without this aid.
  • In hunting practice, sound dummies are used to attract game so close that it can be shot. The use of these aids is generally regulated by hunting law. The decoy whistles, which are used to hunt various wild animals, are well known.
  • The attempt to keep undesired animal species away from a certain place by using sound mock-ups (e.g. screams of fear or warning calls of the species, calls from the predator ) usually does not lead to lasting success.

It is discussed whether the use of sound mockups does not generally contradict the prohibition formulated in § 12 of the Federal Species Protection Ordinance to attract particularly protected species with special methods . There is no uniform legal conception in this regard, neither within Germany nor within the European Union.
