Classifier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A classifier is originally the editor of a subject catalog in the library system . In general, classifier denotes an entity that classifies objects , i. H. classified in categories.

The nature of such an instance depends on the scenario under consideration: In computer science, a classifier is often an algorithm or a program object , especially in pattern recognition, a mathematical function that maps a feature space onto a set of classes. Mechanical components, for example for sorting coins by size, can also represent classifiers.

In many cases, the distinction between procedure and instance is not necessary or useful, which is why the term classifier is often used synonymously with classification procedure .
