Klassik Radio is a private radio program for classical music . The broadcasting center is currently divided between Augsburg and Hamburg . The Klassik Radio GmbH & Co. KG is a subsidiary of Klassik Radio AG based in Augsburg hotel tower and the only publicly traded radio company in Germany. In September 2018 it was announced that Klassik Radio would like to move its headquarters to Augsburg. The move is scheduled to take place in mid-2021 after a listed building in downtown Augsburg was renovated.

program

Klassik Radio primarily offers a music program, which is supplemented by hourly (half-hourly in the morning) news as well as news from the economy, the stock market, media and culture.

The music program should be suitable both as a daily program and for conscious listening. It consists mainly of classical pieces of music , film music and the New Classics. Complete classical works are not played, but rather selected movements that are immediately catchy.

Later in the evening from 10:00 p.m. until around 2018, the program switched to lounge music , i.e. H. Nu Jazz , Downbeat , Chillout , Ambient , World music etc. The program is designed by DJ Nartak, the producer team by Levitation , Lichtmond and Schiller .

"Classic Dreams" has been running since mid-2018 from 10:00 p.m.: quieter tracks accompany the listener through the night.

The broadcaster's moderators include Thomas Ohrner (since 2018 in a dual role as program director), Rolando Villazón , Till Brönner , Joja Wendt and Axel Brüggemann as well as Alexandra Berger, Svenja Sellnow, Florian Schmidt and Holger Wemhoff.

positioning

Because of its musical color and program mix, Klassik Radio differs from numerous other classical waves, whose music programs traditionally have the character of " serious music ". With Klassik Radio, only individual sentences or excerpts from a work are played in order to make the program easier to hear. In addition, the broadcaster gives (classic) film music a relatively large amount of space. Then there are the so-called “New Classics” - a genre whose term classical radio has coined - including current compositions by contemporary composers. Altogether, with this program concept, Klassik Radio is targeting a comparatively young audience aged 30 and over. In addition to facts about the titles played, entertaining stories about composers and artists are told and current topics are reported.

Listener

According to media analysis (ma 2019 Radio II), Klassik Radio has 1.778 million listeners throughout Germany every day (Monday to Friday). In an average hour , the station has 259,000 listeners (Monday to Friday), and 6.076 million listeners are counted among the broadest audience (WHK).

Concert events

Since 2006, Klassik Radio has been organizing concert tours and concert series under the name Klassik Radio live in concert , which are also recorded for later CD productions. With the Klassik Radio Pops Orchestra, the station has been the only non-public broadcaster that founded its own orchestra since 2007 . The orchestra consists of musicians from the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra . For example, a film music concert series was organized from 2006 to 2009 in collaboration with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra , and a concert tour with the pianist Ludovico Einaudi in 2007 .

Transmission area

In addition to nationwide cable distribution, Klassik Radio broadcasts in Germany and Austria on FM frequencies. Classic radio can thus be received in metropolitan areas, currently in regions of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, Tyrol and Salzburg. In Berlin, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, on the other hand, Klassik Radio can be received nationwide via VHF. Otherwise, the station can be found across Europe via the Astra 1H (digital) satellite and worldwide on the Internet. In addition, since the start of the new digital radio standard since August 2011, Klassik Radio has been receivable throughout Germany via DAB + .

Since October 2008, Klassik Radio can also be received via VHF for the first time in Austria in the greater Innsbruck area and since November 2013 also in Salzburg . The reception of classic radio via the Austrian and Swiss cable network, on the other hand, depends on the respective cable provider and differs from region to region. Since May 2019, Klassik Radio can also be received via DAB + in Austria.

On September 1, 2015, Klassik Radio switched off all VHF frequencies in Brandenburg, Thuringia and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hesse outside the metropolitan areas in one step. This can be seen as the beginning of radio digitization, because Klassik Radio justified this with the reorientation towards a digital company and offered the Klassik Radio app online with 34 advertising-financed stations.

Otherwise, the station can be found across Europe via the Astra 1H (digital) satellite and worldwide on the Internet. Since the start of the new digital radio standard in August 2011, the station can be received across Germany via DAB + .
