Klaus Angermann (born April 15, 1953 in Rehau , Upper Franconia ) is a German musicologist and opera dramaturge .

Live and act

Klaus Angermann studied musicology at the Free University of Berlin with Rudolf Stephan , at the Philipps-Universität Marburg with Reinhold Brinkmann and at the Technical University Berlin with Helga de la Motte-Haber , as well as modern German literature and linguistics. During his studies he worked as a freelancer for music magazines and radio stations (including SFB, WDR, Deutschlandfunk).

From 1985 to 1990 he was an actor / singer at the Neuköllner Oper Berlin. From 1985 to 1992 he worked as a lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts in the field of musicology / music education. In addition, from 1989 to 1992 he worked as a research assistant in the musicology department at the Technical University of Berlin as part of a research project on the composer Edgard Varèse funded by the German Research Foundation . In addition to a publication, an exhibition was created in collaboration with Helga de la Motte-Haber, which was shown at the Akademie der Künste Berlin , at the ARS MUSICA festival in Brussels and at the Hamburg music festival. In 1994 he received his doctorate at the TU Berlin with another thesis on Edgard Varèse.

Since then he has published several books, magazine articles and radio broadcasts, especially on the topics of 20th century music and music theater about Edgard Varèse, Olivier Messiaen , Dieter Schnebel , Detlev Glanert , Giacinto Scelsi , Jani Christou , Paul Dessau , Giuseppe Verdi , the music theater Wolfgang Rihms .

From 1992 to 1998 he was dramaturge at the Hamburg State Opera under the directorships of Peter Ruzicka and Albin Hänseroth. He supervised the world premieres of Alfred Schnittke's “Historia von D. Johann Fausten”, Alexander Zemlinsky's “King Kandaules” and Helmut Lachenmann's “Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern”. During his time in Hamburg he was responsible for the dramaturgical supervision of the Hamburg music festivals and the concert series “das neue werk” (in cooperation with the NDR ).

In 1998, Wulf Konold brought him to the Staatstheater Nürnberg as head music dramaturge , where he was responsible for opera, operetta, musical, dance theater and concert.

From 2008 to 2010 Klaus Angermann was chief dramaturge for the music theater at Theater Dortmund . From 2011 to 2019 he was chief dramaturge at the Hanover State Opera .

In 2002, Klaus Angermann was awarded the City of Rehau's Culture Prize for his scientific and artistic work .

Since 2003 guest dramaturgies have taken him repeatedly to the Institute for Music Theater at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (partly in cooperation with the Schwetzingen Festival ) and in 2007 to the Landestheater Linz for the new production of the opera "Orphée" by Philip Glass in the staging by Daniela Kurz.

Together with the director Susanne Frey, he founded the association "voices eV" in 2003 to realize innovative and cross-genre theater productions. In this context he was responsible for conceptual collaboration and dramaturgical support for the productions “La Voix.Die Voice” (2004, co-production with the Tafelhalle Nürnberg, the ensemble Kontraste and the Opéra Nomade) and “Mozart.Müzik” (2006, co-production with the Tafelhalle Nuremberg and Radialsystem Berlin ).

Klaus Angermann has worked with directors like u. a. Hans Hollmann , Achim Freyer , Andrea Raabe, Olivier Tambosi , Beverly Blankenship, Stephen Lawless, Gottfried Pilz, Wolfram Mehring , Hansgünther Heyme , Michael Beyer, Benedikt von Peter , Kerstin Pöhler, Michael Simon , Christine Mielitz , Bruno Klimek , Gregor Horres , Matthias Davids , Sebastian Baumgarten , Frank Hilbrich , Enrico Lübbe , Michiel Dijkema , Dietrich Hilsdorf , Kay Voges , Ingo Kerkhof and Yoshi Oida as well as with the choreographers Stijn Celis, Jo Strömgren, Rodolpho Leoni, Lionel Hoche and Daniela Kurz.

In 2014, Klaus Angermann and Stephan Meier founded the Klangbrücken Festival in Hanover as a cooperation between the Hanover State Opera, the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and Musik 21 Niedersachsen as well as other independent music institutions in Hanover, which is dedicated to an important modern composer every year .
