Klaus Roth (chemist)
Klaus Roth (* 1945 in Berlin ) is a German chemist , university professor and author. Since 2003 he has written numerous articles on food chemistry and everyday chemistry in a regular column in Chemistry in Our Time , which have also been published in three books and in English translation on ChemistryViews .
Life
Klaus Roth studied chemistry at the Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate from the Free University in 1973 with a thesis “About azaisologist of highly acidic hydrocarbons” in Dieter Rewicki's working group. Roth completed a research stay at the Institute for Medical Research in London, after returning to Germany he completed his habilitation in 1981 at the Free University of Berlin. After a further two-year stay abroad at the University of California in San Francisco, he was appointed to a professorship at the Free University of Berlin in 1989.
Between 1991 and 1999 he was director of the Berlin Dahlem Conferences . Scientifically, Roth dealt primarily with NMR tomography and spectroscopy, about which he has written an introductory textbook. Roth published around 50 scientific papers.
In September 2015 he published an editorial in "Chemistry in Our Time" with the title "Let's stop whining", in which he pointed out that, according to a study in Great Britain, the public image of "chemistry" was better than the chemists themselves believe according to surveys.
