Klaus Dieter Seybold

Klaus Dieter Seybold (born April 28, 1936 in Heidenheim ; † May 31, 2011 in Basel ) was a German Protestant theologian and professor of the Old Testament in Basel.

Life

Seybold grew up in Stuttgart - Botnang , where he attended elementary school. Then he went to the Dillmann Realgymnasium in Stuttgart. He then completed language courses in Greek and Hebrew at the ecclesiastical language college in Stuttgart. From 1956 to 1961 he studied Protestant theology in Tübingen at the Protestant theological monastery and in Heidelberg . In 1961 he passed the first theological exam in Tübingen, in the same year he was ordained in the Church of the Resurrection in Botnang. From 1961 to 1964 he was vicar of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg in Bad Wildbad in the Black Forest, then repetition at the Evangelical Seminary in Blaubeuren , where he passed his second theological exam in 1966. In the same year he married Gisela Vetterlein, with whom he later had two sons. He is the brother of the botanist Siegmund Seybold .

From 1964 to 1968 Seybold was a research assistant in the Old Testament department of the Theological Faculty of the University of Kiel with Walter Beyerlin . In 1968 he received his doctorate in theology with a dissertation on the subject: The Davidic kingship in the testimony of the prophets . In 1972 he completed his habilitation at the theological faculty of the University of Kiel with the habilitation thesis: Illness and Healing in the Psalms . Investigations to determine and assign the disease and healing psalms . There he worked as a private lecturer and professor until 1979. From 1976 to 1977 he was a substitute professor at the university's theological faculty. In 1977 he also took part in the teaching course of the German Evangelical Institute in Jerusalem .

In 1979 Seybold was appointed and appointed full professor for Old Testament theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Basel . He was able to hold other guest lectureships and lectures from 1980 to 1981 and from 1998 to 1999 at the University of Lucerne , 1986 in Taejon , South Korea , from 1990 to 1991 in Zurich , 1999 in Debrecen and Budapest and 2000 in Sibiu, Romania . From 1980 to 2003 he was also editor of the theological magazine Basel. From 1982 to 1988 he was head of the Theological Seminary in Basel. He was dean of the theological faculty of the University of Basel from 1982 to 1983, 1986 to 1987, 1993 to 1994 and 1997 to 1998. In 2001 he was Vice President of the 17th Congress of the International Organization of the Old Testament ( IOSOT ) in Basel. He retired in 2004 and died in 2011.
