The Kleť Observatory ( Hvězdárna Kleť ) is an observatory in the Czech Republic .

location

The observatory is located in South Bohemia on the Kleť near the town of Český Krumlov at an altitude of 1070  m , making it the highest observatory in Bohemia. It was built by Sternfreunde in-house from 1958 to 1961 and has the largest lens telescope in the Czech Republic.

particularities

The astronomer Antonín Mrkos worked there from 1966 to 1991.

On September 29, 1986, Zdeňka Vávrová discovered the asteroid (4124) Herriot there . Also Ladislav Brožek discovered there some asteroids.

Astronomers Jana Tichá and Miloš Tichý are currently working at the observatory.

The asteroid (2199) Klet was named after both the observatory and the mountain.
