action

Dishwasher Ingo Hermann actually only has the task of delivering a chair left behind to the Folkwang University in Essen. There, after waiting for hours, he unintentionally ends up in an entrance exam to study drama and convinces the examination board with his appearance without knowing it. Before going to drama school , he met Johannes Scheffler, who dreams of a career as an actor, but is rejected again with his application. Johannes stays with Ingo for one night and witnesses Ingo's friend Margot moving out. Margot is unhappy with Ingo because he shows no ambition to develop beyond what she calls his “idiot jobs”. Because of the action involving the chair return, Ingo fails to show up for his job the next morning and is fired. Now nothing stops him in Gelsenkirchen and he accompanies Johannes to Munich , where he wants to apply to the Otto Falckenberg School . Johannes and Ingo are separated when hitchhiking because the first driver who stops only wants to take one passenger with him. Various cigarettes later, a heavily tuned Chevrolet Camaro from the late 1970s stops , which Ingo takes with him. Since the driver who took Johannes with him wants to persuade him to engage in homosexual activities, Johannes lets himself be dropped off at the Spessart motorway service station . There is little activity there at night and Johannes doesn't get any further. In the rest stop he met the self-confident Ali, who is also aiming for an acting career and wants to hitchhike to Munich. A dubious four-person crew of a VW Golf I offers to take them to Munich for 200 DM per head. Both Johannes and Ali reject the offer. Ali provokes the golfers additionally and breaks a fight off the fence. At the same time, the Camaro happens to arrive at the rest stop with Ulf “Bierchen” and Ingo to buy more beer. Ulf and Ingo intervene in the fight and drive the golfers to flight. The four of them with Ulf continue to Munich. While he sleeps off his intoxication, Ingo drives the Camaro to its destination. In the process, Ingo develops a fantasy story that fits the journey and that only the viewer can hear. As heard in the opening scene, Ingo has a talent for writing such stories, but he doesn't dare to make more of it. Once in Munich, the three “little sharks” get by with various jobs (and a few adventures) and finally take the entrance exam at the drama school together. In Munich the three get to know Herta, who poses as a typical snotty Berlin brat, but has considerable musical talent. After all, only Ali was successful in the entrance exam in Munich. As a last chance for the completely dejected Johannes only the drama school in Berlin remains. The three friends go out to eat classy together on the farewell evening. Ali, whose real name is Albrecht Hagen Franke von Korweiler, suddenly turns out to be very rich. The next day Johannes and Ingo hitchhike again. Herta happened to come by with her Opel Kadett C Caravan and took Johannes to Berlin. Ingo is taken home by Ulf, who happens to be returning from Italy. After the credits, Ingo answered the open questions: Johannes was accepted at the Berlin school and became an actor to be taken seriously. Ali left the Munich drama school and is now a commercial film producer there. Ingo himself is back in Gelsenkirchen, but did not train as an actor because he can actually make a living from writing. He and Margot got married and have two little daughters, the godfather is "Bierchen". The third child is on the way. If it turns out to be a son, and if the godfather has his way instead of Margot, his name should be Ulf.

background

The film title is based on the title of the standard work “ Der kleine Hey ”, which forms the basis of language training for actors, speakers and singers. The book appears in a short film scene and is quoted with a speaking exercise.

In the film, Wortmann describes an autobiographical episode in which someone is supposed to hand something in at a drama school, by chance gets into an ongoing entrance examination and is accepted. He cast Armin Rohde without remembering that he was the student supervisor for this casting at the time.

In addition to the main actors, many well-known actors such as Rufus Beck , Sebastian Schipper , Katharina Abt , Michael Kessler , Willi Thomczyk , Michael Mendl , Heinrich Schafmeister , Jennifer Nitsch , Carin C. Tietze , Andreas Borcherding and Götz Otto were seen in supporting roles and as small actors . Almost all of the main and supporting actors later made careers, some of them are among the most famous German actors. The sports commentator Werner Hansch made one of his occasional appearances in feature films as an emcee or himself .

Kai Wiesinger, Heinrich sheep champion and Meret Becker played five years later together in the Comedian Harmonists film by Joseph Vilsmeier .
