The Kleine Sonnstein is 923 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the municipality of Traunkirchen on the west bank of the Traunsee . It is a popular hiking mountain because of its excellent view over the Traunsee, the Tote Gebirge and the Höllengebirge . The Sonnsteinhütte of the Traunkirchen mountain rescue service is located near the summit.
Flora and vegetation
In the summit area there is a beautifully pronounced snow heather-pine forest. Among the Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ), in addition to many more widespread species, there are also hill violets , Färber Meier , Traunsee bedstraw , blood cranesbill , hare's ear -leaved hawkweed , rock buckthorn and sheath vetch .

The special climatic favor of the location enables the golden- eyed jumping spider ( Philaeus chrysops ) to occur.
