Klemens Murańka (born August 31, 1994 in Zakopane ) is a Polish ski jumper .

Career

Murańka, who jumps for TS Wisła Zakopane , reached 26th place in individual at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Hinterzarten and fifth with the team. He qualified for the first time on January 21, 2011 in Zakopane, his home country, for a World Cup competition . At the end of January 2011 he was eleven in the individual and fourth with the Polish team at the Junior World Championships in Otepää, Estonia . Another three weeks later he and his club in Szczyrk became Polish team champions for the first time. In the same year he and the Polish team won the team competition at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 in Liberec, Czech Republic .

After Murańka was able to climb onto the winners' podium in a Continental Cup jumping for the first time on January 29, 2012 in Bischofshofen in third place , he won the 2012 Junior World Championships in Erzurum, Turkey, with the Polish team, including Tomasz Byrt and Bartłomiej Kłusek and Aleksander Zniszczoł , the silver medal in team competition and sixth in the individual competition. On March 3, 2012, he jumped for the first time on a podium in the World Cup with the Polish team in the team competition in Lahti, Finland . He rounded off his most successful career year to date with two second places in the Continental Cup competitions on December 8th and 9th in Almaty, Kazakhstan .

After falling during a training jump in Austria, Murańka had to undergo multiple eye operations in the summer of 2012 because of a corneal injury and therefore had to stop training for several weeks. At the Junior World Championships in 2013 in Liberec, Czech Republic, he was able to defend the silver medal with the Polish team, which this time included Kłusek, Zniszczoł and Krzysztof Biegun , and also took second place in the individual competition.

On September 21, 2013, he achieved the first Continental Cup victory of his career at the summer jumping competition in Klingenthal , which he followed up with the second the following day. He achieved his first top ten result and thus his best individual result in a World Cup competition on December 21, 2013 in Engelberg , Switzerland , when he finished seventh. In February 2014, he was only eighth in the individual competition of the Junior World Championships in Fiemme Valley , Italy , but won the team title with the Polish team together with Jakub Wolny , Zniszczoł and Biegun. He celebrated his first Continental Cup success on snow on February 7, 2014 at Iron Mountain , USA . At the 2014 Ski Flying World Championships in Harrachov , Czech Republic , he finished 25th in the individual.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , Sweden , he took 17th place on the normal hill and 20th on the large hill in the two individual competitions. In the team competition on the large hill, he won the bronze medal together with Piotr Żyła , Jan Ziobro and Kamil Stoch . On March 15, 2015, he achieved his second top ten placement in the World Cup in tenth place in Oslo .

In the summer of 2015 he won two Continental Cup competitions in Wisła and Frenštát pod Radhoštěm . His best placement in the 2015/16 World Cup season was a 19th place in Nizhny Tagil . In this season as well as in the 2016/17 season he commuted between the COC and the World Cup. At the Ski Flying World Championships 2016 in Bad Mitterndorf he was 26th in the individual and reached fifth place with the Polish team. In the 2016/17 season he only reached the top 30 as 27th in Lillehammer .

Murańka started the new season and the Summer Continental Cup 2017/18 on July 7th and 8th, 2017 with two victories on the normal hill in Kranj . In August 2017, after two second and one third place in three competitions, Murańka won the first-ever Beskydy Tour 2017 . On August 26, 2017, he achieved his first podium finish in the Summer Grand Prix . In Hakuba he was third behind Junshirō Kobayashi and Kenneth Gangnes . He also won the summer COC rating in 2017. In the following World Cup season , he was part of the national group at the start in Wisła , but failed to qualify as 52nd. After that he was no longer part of the Polish World Cup line-up and competed in the FIS Cup and the Continental Cup.

Only a year later did he return to World Cup qualification - again at the World Cup opener in Wisła - but failed to qualify as 59th. In January 2019 he was able to qualify for a World Cup competition in Zakopane for the first time in almost two years, but clearly missed the points as 47th of the first round. Ultimately, it took exactly 1100 days until his next result in the World Cup points, which he achieved on December 15, 2019 in Klingenthal . He was part of the Polish squad as the seventh jumper, as he won the summer championship of the Continental Cup and thus gained an additional place in the squad.
