The Klemm L 26 was a civil training and sports aircraft from Leichtflugzeugbau Klemm GmbH .

history

The aircraft was designed in 1929 as a further development of the Klemm L 25 . The biggest change concerned the installation of more powerful engines, with the fuselage and wings largely remaining the same and only modified for the installation of the more powerful engines. The engine of the L 26a V was a suspended four-cylinder in-line Argus As 8  A-2 engine with 95 hp (70 kW). The most popular L 26 e V was powered by an Argus-As-8-A-3 engine with 120 hp. The three-seater version was called VL 26 and was also equipped with different engines. Around 170 Klemm L 26s were built between 1930 and 1936, only one of which survived the Second World War, which no longer exists today. The machine became known through numerous record flights by Ernst Udet and Elly Beinhorn .
