The Kollhoff Tower is a 101 meter high building with 25 floors in Berlin . Seen from Potsdamer Platz , it is centrally located at the beginning of the new district that was built in the 1990s . The building, named after Hans Kollhoff from the Kollhoff und Timmermann Architects , was completed in 1999.

Kollhoff Tower, stepped back in the style of classic high-rise buildings

Together with the Bahnower (103 meters) to the north and the Forum Tower designed by Renzo Piano (now PWC office high-rise, together with the Atrium Tower and Potsdamer Platz Arkaden part of the debis complex) in the south, it forms a high-rise ensemble in the middle of the city. Kollhoff and Timmermann Architekten also designed the nearby Delbrück high-rise of the Beisheim Center . Both buildings are designed in the style of early high-rise architecture of the 20th century .

The lowest floors are reserved for retail stores while the upper floors are reserved for offices. On the top level there has been a viewing platform since April 15, 2000, to which the fastest passenger elevator in Europe leads. It transports passengers at a speed of 8.65 meters per second.

At the beginning of 2009 the building was scaffolded for facade repairs. Moisture penetrating the clinker facade can cause frost damage, which can lead to parts of the facade falling down. The sidewalk around the building was therefore built over with scaffolding in 2008 to protect passers-by. The viewing platform has been open to the public again since the beginning of June 2010.

There is also a permanent exhibition up there (“BERLIN VIEWS of Potsdamer Platz”) about the history of Potsdamer Platz and a panoramic café that is glazed all around.
