The commando special forces of the navy ( KSM ) is formed by the combat swimmers . The command is stationed in Eckernförde and is subordinate to the operational flotilla 1 . Together with the sea ​​battalion, it forms the German marine infantry . These previously belonged to the Marine Specialized Forces (SEK M) from 1997 to 2014 , which was dissolved with the reorganization. They form the counterpart to the sea of ​​the special forces command of the army , with which a constant exchange of experience takes place.

The Special Forces Command of the Navy (KSM) is responsible for armed evacuation operations, the fight against international terrorism, the reconnaissance of ports and ship congregations and the acquisition of key information. The soldiers can be sent as part of the training support for friendly countries and advise the leadership there on training and equipment.
