The KdoSKB is headed by the inspector of the armed forces base with the rank of lieutenant general . He reports to the General Inspector of the Bundeswehr . The deputy inspector also holds the rank of lieutenant general, the chief of staff that of major general . The inspector general of the Bundeswehr is authorized to give instructions to the inspector of the armed forces base.

The KdoSKB is the only higher command authority within the military organizational area of the Armed Forces Base and thus the central management tool and staff of the Inspector of the Armed Forces Base .
