Municipal housing management

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Municipal housing administrations (KWV) in the GDR were mostly companies formed in the legal form of a state-owned enterprise (VEB) , which were active in the management and administration of urban real estate .

Many municipal housing administrations owned large real estate holdings, which were built from the 1950s as old new buildings or as new buildings in prefabricated construction. The holdings also included old buildings from the period before 1945, which were built with public funds before the Second World War. Buildings that had become public property through the expropriation of the previous owners were also administered by the municipal housing authorities.

After reunification, the municipal housing administrations were mostly converted into legal forms under private law. A large part of the old buildings from the former KWV portfolio was lost through restitution . The successor companies are usually still owned by the municipalities (e.g. housing association Berlin-Mitte , Leipzig housing and construction company ), but some have also been sold to external investors (e.g. Woba Dresden ).
