Conative

The conative is a type of action that is used in classical philology to specify the tense meanings of present tense stem tenses, for example in Latin. This type of action is translated with verbal complexes like try or want :

Latin dormiebat (3rd Pers. Sg. Ind. Imperf. Act.) "he tried to sleep", "he wanted to sleep" (imperfectum de conatu).
