Conference of Spa

The Spa Conference was held from 5th to 16th July 1920 in the Belgian health resort Spa instead and was the first conference after the First World War , at the with Chancellor Fehrenbach and Foreign Minister Simons again German participated statesmen. The venue was symbolic: the Villa La Fraineuse was the residence of the last German emperor in Spa. The allied governments were represented by David Lloyd George , Lord Curzon ( Great Britain ), Alexandre Millerand ( France ), Léon Delacroix , Paul Hymans ( Belgium ), Carlo Graf Sforza ( Italy ) and Chinda Sutemi ( Japan ). It was about the question of the reparations that the German Reich should pay to the victorious powers after the lost war, as well as about the disarmament of Germany. For this purpose, Reich Finance Minister Joseph Wirth , Reich Defense Minister Otto Geßler and his deputy Hans von Seeckt took part in the meetings.

Decisions:

  1. Reduction in coal delivery
  2. Easier food supply for German miners
  3. Extension of the dates for the required disarmament

The Allies also agreed what proportion of the reparations payments each country should receive without the absolute amount of the claim against Germany having already been determined. According to this, a denomination in France was 52%, England 22%, Italy 10%, Belgium 8%, and other allies 8%.
