Konrad Hans Hubert Samwer (born January 26, 1952 in Göttingen ) is a German physicist specializing in materials science.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1970, Konrad Samwer studied physics at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn . After graduating in 1975 , he received his doctorate in 1981 on thermal and electrical properties of the metallic glass Zr Cu and completed his habilitation in 1987 on amorphization in solid metal systems . In 1989 he accepted a position as professor for experimental physics at the University of Augsburg and has been at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen since 1999. He was a visiting researcher at the California Institute of Technology in 1981/82, 1987, 1994, 1998, 2004, and 2007 .

Samwer researched magnetoresistance anomalies at low temperatures and discovered the colossal magnetoresistance on manganate layer structures ( Kondo systems ). Further of his works concern high temperature superconductors and disorder phenomena such as phase transitions and properties of amorphous systems, glasses and liquids.
