Convergence zone (sound)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The convergence zone is a physical phenomenon of sound propagation under water . Sound travels in all directions in water. Sound that penetrates deeper is deflected into a series of curves by water temperature and pressure, which curve up to the surface and then back down (similar to the refraction of light ). This means that submarines sometimes locate themselves (albeit far from their current position) or that the sonar displays incorrectly objects.

However, in meteorology , the convergence zone also has another meaning.
