Coral fish
The term coral fish is used to describe fish that are closely tied to coral reefs . It is an ecological classification , not a description of the biological system . The animals do not have to be related to each other.
Coral fish , for example, can live on coral polyps . This is particularly true of species in the following families :
- Butterflyfish (Chaetodon)
- Filefish (Monacanthidae)
Others use the branching hard corals as a refuge. These include species from the following families :
- Anthias (Anthiadinae)
- Damselfish (Pomacentridae)
- Dwarf perch (Pseudochromidae)
- Munchaws or coral guardians (Cirrhitidae)
- Gobies (Gobiidae)
- Fur clumps (Caracanthidae)
