Korpo ( Swedish ), Finnish Korppoo , is a former municipality in the archipelago off the coast of south-western Finland . Today Korpo belongs to the city of Pargas (Parainen).

The area of Korpo was settled by Swedish farmers in the Middle Ages . The parish of Korpo was founded around 1300 but was first mentioned in a document in 1434. At the beginning of 2009, Korpo merged with the municipalities of Nagu , Houtskär and Iniö as well as the city of Pargas to form the city of Väståboland, which was again renamed Pargas in 2012.

The former municipality of Korpo lies west of Nagu and southeast of Houtskär and comprises a total of over 2,000 skerries and cliffs. The church village of Korpo is located about 50 kilometers from Turku on the island of Kyrklandet , the second largest island is Norrskata . The Utö archipelago , which formerly belonged to the municipality of Korpo, is the southernmost island in Finland that is inhabited all year round. Excluding the marine areas, Korpo had an area of 178.66 km². The population was 860, of which 74.4% Finland-Sweden . Officially, the community was bilingual with Swedish as the majority and Finnish as the minority language. The Swedish People's Party , the traditional political representation of Finland-Swedes, received 100% of the vote in the 2004 local elections.

Korpo is located at a strategically important point on the edge of the south-west Finnish archipelago and is therefore home to the Gyltö and Utö military bases. The Finnish Army is the largest employer in the former municipality. In addition, the population lives from agriculture and tourism. The main attractions of Korpo are the stone church of St. Michael , built between 1430 and 1450 , the wooden church of Norrskata, the chapels on Aspö and Jurmo, the weather radar that functions as a lookout tower on Rumar and Finland's oldest lighthouse on Utö.
