The Creeping winds or Blue Mauritius ( Convolvulus sabatius ) is a plant type from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae).

description

The creeping wind is a dwarf shrub or a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 50 centimeters. The stem is lying to ascending and not twisting. The leaves are all whole. The base of the leaf blade is weakly heart-shaped and truncated to wedge-shaped. The crown is 15 to 22 millimeters long and blue to pink.

The flowering period extends from May to October.

Occurrence

The creeping winds are native to Italy and north-west Africa on dry limestone cliffs.

One can distinguish the following subspecies:

  • Convolvulus sabatius subsp. mauritanicus (Boiss.) Murb. : The homeland is Algeria and Morocco. In Sicily, Greece and New Zealand it is a neophyte. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.
  • Convolvulus sabatius subsp. Sabatius : The home is north-western Italy.

use

The creeping wind is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens, alpine houses, hanging baskets and planters. It has been in culture since around 1860.
