Criminal Etiology

Criminal etiology is the science of the causes of crime. In addition to criminal phenomenology and victimology, it is a sub-area of criminology .

Areas

Criminal aetiology comprises the following three areas:

  • Forensic biology : the crime is based on the physical abilities of the offender ("born offender")
  • Criminal sociology: the crime is based on social causes
  • Criminal psychology : the crime is based on the psyche of the individual
