The Kroppacher Switzerland is a landscape in the association communities Hachenburg , Altenkirchen and Wissen in the Rhineland-Palatinate part of the Westerwald . It is located at the lower course of the Nister and bears its first part of the name after the place Kroppach , which towers above the Nistertal, while the second alludes to the characteristic ribs and rock faces.

Kroppacher Schweiz is part of the Nisterbergland natural area and thus the Mittelieg-Bergland .

places

Downstream of Kroppacher Switzerland belong the towns of Astert , Limbach , Heuzert , Heimborn , Stein-Wingert , Idelberg and Helmeroth .

geology

Geologically, the area was created by the fact that the Nister, coming from the High Westerwald , has carved its way deep into the undulating landscape in many twists and turns over thousands of years. The banks, which have been cut very steeply as a result, have exposed a grandiose rock landscape as they sink annually.

landscape

The Kroppacher Switzerland is part of the 1,969 designated conservation area, Nistertal. It is crossed by numerous designated hiking trails along the course of the Nister. Among the best known are the Westerwaldsteig , the Marienwanderweg - an old pilgrim path that connects the Cistercian monastery Marienstatt with the Franciscan monastery Marienthal - and the nature trail to the so-called end of the world at Stein-Wingert. The main entrances to Kroppacher Schweiz are Hachenburg , Kroppach / Bahnhof, Ingelbach and Wissen .
