The culture factory in Koblenz

The Kulturfabrik (KUFA) is a free theater for cabaret in Koblenz . It is supported by the city of Koblenz and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as well as private sponsors. The Kulturfabrik is sponsored by a voluntary GmbH and a member of the LAG Soziokultur & Kulturpädagogik eV

history

The culture factory is located in a Wilhelminian style building of the Mayer-Alberti envelope factory, which was founded in 1862, in the Lützel district. The company developed into the largest envelope factory in Europe. During the Nazi era , the factory was Aryanized in 1938 , after which the Jewish owners emigrated to the USA . Most of the factories were destroyed in the air raids on Koblenz .

The factory building that now houses the culture factory was empty for a long time, only the ground floor was used as a warehouse. In 1980 the “Regenbogen” dance theater was looking for new premises and converted the old factory building into a cultural center. After the first operators gave up in 1996, KUFA GmbH took over the theater at the instigation of a citizens' initiative.

The Kulturfabrik was the origin of a variety of art and cultural education initiatives and institutions. It was the first independent theater on the Middle Rhine . Not only was the first youth art school in Rhineland-Palatinate (Jugendkunstwerkstatt Koblenz) founded there in 1991, it has also been home to the Koblenzer Jugendtheater e. V., which performs its productions there and also has its workshops, rehearsal rooms and storage rooms.

The “Kids in the Kufa” series aims to inspire children and young people for art and culture. In the summer of 2014, the “new summer nights” will start as open air at Fort Konstantin . Further events are the “night cafe”, cabaret and cabaret evenings, music, theater and musicals.

use

The Kulturfabrik has a theater hall with up to 350 seats, a gallery and a restaurant that is open for events. There is also a rehearsal and ballet hall on the first floor . The Rhineland-Palatinate Culture Office was housed on the third floor of the Kulturfabrik until the end of 2011 , until it had to move to Lahnstein at the turn of 2011/12.
