Culture Prize Silesia of the State of Lower Saxony
The Silesian Culture Prize of the State of Lower Saxony has been awarded by the Lower Saxony state government since 1977 . It was donated as a sign of the solidarity between the State of Lower Saxony and the Silesians living in the Federal Republic of Germany , as this group of people found a new home after the Second World War, especially in Lower Saxony, and contributed to the reconstruction of the state.
Initially only displaced artists from the fields of literature , visual arts and music from Silesia were awarded the prize. In addition to this so-called main prize, a sponsorship prize was awarded from 1977 to 1985 and a scholarship from 1986 to 1992. Polish artists living in Silesia have also been among the award winners since 1991. In addition, the circle of award winners was expanded to include people who have made a contribution to the preservation, further development and dissemination of the Silesian cultural heritage.
The contract awarded by a jury headed by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport price currently consists of two equal parts that are endowed with the equivalent of 4,000 euros and subject to a German and a Polish be awarded. In addition, since 1981 a special prize, also combined with a premium of the equivalent of 4,000 euros, has been awarded as a contribution to international understanding, reconciliation and peace.
