The Kunstraum Dornbirn is an institution that plans and organizes exhibitions in the field of contemporary visual art .

The focus of the Kunstraum Dornbirn is on the subject of "Art and Nature". This includes the sensual, reflective and artistic-analytical handling of the concept of nature, with contemporary breaks in the perception of nature and the field of tension between artificial and natural worlds of perception.

In June 2019 it was announced that Gerald Matt Ekkehard Bechtold would succeed as honorary president of the association “Kunstraum Dornbirn” on July 1st, 2019. Bechtold had previously been president of the association founded in 1987 for fifteen years.

The exhibition venue is the assembly hall of the former Rüschwerke in the Dornbirn city garden. The company was an important turbine manufacturing company in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. In 1893 the large brick assembly hall was built, as the number and dimensions of the turbine runners and systems were getting larger and more space was urgently needed. With a length of 30 meters and a width of 14 meters, the hall measures a total area of 440 m², the exhibition area comprises around 350 m². The height of 11.5 meters and the large access gate make the assembly hall passable for trucks.

The Dornbirn art space gives mainly recognized artists, but also interesting experimental positions by young artists, the opportunity to artistically implement their relationship to nature and their view of things. The artists are not given any specifications with regard to the media used. The works of art are essentially created on site. The only limits that are set for artistic creation are the dimensions of the hall and the financial resources of the municipalities.
