The Kurdish Red Crescent ( Heyva Sor ) (Kurdish: Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê ) is a humanitarian non-profit organization with centers in Germany and Kobanê in the de facto autonomous West Kurdistan . According to his own account, he is one of the main providers of medical care and refugee aid for people who are facing attacks by the Islamic State(IS) and the Syrian and Turkish governments fled. He is also helping to rebuild Kobanê, which was largely destroyed after several months of fighting ISIS. German security authorities consider the Kurdish Red Crescent to be an organization of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) or an organization closely related to the PKK.

The Kurdish Red Crescent is not a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross or part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies .

engagement

According to its self-portrayal, the Kurdish Red Crescent is mainly involved in five areas: child aid, family sponsorship, health care, emergency aid and the solidarity project for prisoners.

financing

Donations are collected in several European countries. For example in Germany and Sweden, where the organization was founded in 1993. In 2019, the Kurdish Red Crescent received a donation of 250,000 euros from the German party The Party .

In 2010 the supervisory and service directorate of Rhineland-Palatinate decided that the organization may not use the symbol of the Red Crescent or the Red Cross, as this is reserved for states. In Rhineland-Palatinate, the organization has not been allowed to collect donations since 2010. The "appropriate proper use of the donations as well as the grants" is not guaranteed and although the donation boxes regularly showed needy children with the label "Help for children in need - HSK eV", these funds were used for purposes other than those intended.
